There are many great benefits to becoming a Oztag referee whether you still play the game, have retired, or have never played there is plenty to be gained from picking up the whistle. Refereeing Oztag is a great way to stay involved in the game as well as having some fun, making new friends and earn some money along the way.
Referee development is an extremely important part of our game, simply without referees we wouldn’t have a game to enjoy. If you would like to get involved with the fastest growing recreational sport in ACT follow the steps listed below to become an accredited Oztag referee. There are many levels a referee can reach within the sport of Oztag, starting at a grass roots level and advancing to a national and even international level.
NEW REFEREES
For persons aged 13 and above.
Follow these few simple steps and you will be on your way to becoming a Oztag Referee:
5. Start Refereeing! You will be a “shadow” referee to gain confidence and skill, before refereeing on your own.
NEW SENIOR REFEREES – You must be at least 15 years of age, and complete a Senior Referee Course, such as a Level 1 Course. Once you have completed the course, you will be able to referee social grade competitions.

Achieved referee experience criteria – A “common sense” approach needs to be taken. If the referee is not comfortable to referee a shared game or convener believes they aren’t ready to take the field yet, then more off field mentoring & running touch lines may be needed.
